Now that so much of our personal and business correspondence is done electronically—from e-mails and texting to word documents and social networking sites—e-discovery is becoming an increasingly important tool in all matters of law and business.

According to Gartner Inc. a Stamford, Conn.-based information technology research and advisory company, an estimated $808 million was spent on e-discovery software technologies in 2008, a figure the corporation anticipates will increase to $2.1 billion by 2013. Local entrepreneurs are noticing the trend, and over the last few years a number of firms that specialize in electronic sleuthing have opened or expanded in Charlotte.
